Gardaí and councils launch waste checkpoints

WATERFORD’S local authorities have teamed up with gardaí to launch a blitz on illegal waste contractors.

The local authorities, with support from An Garda Síochána, set up two large-scale roadside waste checkpoints on the N25.

More than 100 vehicles were stopped and searched, drivers were questioned and in some instances evidence was retrieved for follow-up action.
