Council workers to strike over insurance concerns

VOTES will be counted today after more than 200 workers at Kilkenny County Council yesterday balloted on industrial action in a row over work conditions.

SIPTU officials claim that some people indirectly employed by the council are not properly insured.

The union represents the bulk of council workers and is looking at over 20 contractors used by the local authority to see whether they fully comply with insurance requirements.
