A GARDA on duty on the night of a fatal hit-and-run in Donegal said yesterday he accepted responsibility for not taking steps to ensure a full and thorough investigation of the death.

Garda Patrick Mulligan admitted to the Morris Tribunal it was wrong not to preserve the scene where cattle dealer Richie Barron died in Raphoe.

Gda Mulligan also admitted he had been drinking in a pub in Lifford with a colleague on the night Mr Barron was killed.
