LUAS, Dublin’s light rail system, has been given the all-clear to make its maiden journey this afternoon — and commuters don’t have to pay anything for the trip in the first five days.

Authorities are happy with safety trials that have been taking place on the tram line for the past six weeks.

With speeds of up to 70 mph, the trip from Sandyford to St Stephen's Green will take 22 minutes.
