Ireland to London flights to operate as normal

FLIGHTS from Ireland to London’s main airports are expected to operate as normal today despite a series of fatal terrorist explosions in the city yesterday morning.

Although many air travellers missed flights out of London yesterday because of disruption to public transport services, all scheduled flights to Ireland from the city’s five main airports were unaffected by the bomb attacks.

It is believed several hundred passengers travelling to Irish airports missed their intended flight, largely as a result of the suspension for several hours of express shuttle services to Heathrow and Stansted.

Airlines reported no major delays or cancellations to flights to destinations in Ireland from London’s main airports - Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and London City.

Both Aer Lingus and Ryanair are advising passengers travelling to and from London today and over the weekend to arrive as normal for check-in.

However, travellers getting flights from London are being encouraged to allow additional time to travel to airports, especially if they are using public transport.

Limited services on the London Underground network were due to resume this morning, while bus services and national rail services had already returned to schedule by yesterday afternoon after being suspended for several hours.

Nevertheless, commuters can expect delays to their journeys as extra security measures around tube and main railway stations will remain in place for the immediate future.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said a few hundred passengers for the 250 daily flights it operates out of Stansted had missed their scheduled flight. However, the airline said it expected most customers would be accommodated on the next available flights.

Ryanair reported few cancellations and non-appearances by passengers travelling from Irish airports to London yesterday.
