THE proliferation of fast-food outlets is contributing to “toxic” environments which make it more difficult for people to eat healthily, the Irish Heart Foundation said yesterday.

Chief executive Michael O’Shea praised the Mid-Western Health Board on its recent decision to object to a new McDonald’s outlet locating in Ennis, Co Clare, because of the possible effects on children’s health.
