Planning body backs landfill

AN BORD Pleanála yesterday gave the go-ahead to a controversial landfill in east Galway despite strong local community objections.

Planning permission for the private landfill at Killaghmore, to be run by waste firm Greenstar, was approved last year by Galway County Council.

Among the conditions attached to planning is the 50-acre dump site will only operate for 10 years.
