A GENERATION of obese children could be created if sports initiatives continue to be under funded, the Irish Sports Council has warned.

Chief executive John Treacy yesterday said the impact of the Government's recent decision to slash physical education funding for schools may not be felt for years but the impact could be huge.

"Physical education is the last thing that should be cut, not the first," he said.
