WIDE-RANGING and immediate garda reforms were demanded by opposition parties following the publication of the Morris report yesterday.

The Government fully accepted the findings of the damning report as Justice Minister Michael McDowell said that even prior to the report he had prepared new laws to reform the management of the gardaí and he would now work to speed up the legislation.

The establishment of a specific Oireachtas committee to supervise the implementation of Justice Frederick Morris’s recommendations was sought by Fine Gael.
