THE Irish Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has called for a referendum to repeal the outdated Article 41.2 of the Constitution, which guarantees to protect the role of women in the home.

The IHRC has questioned this particular article because they believe it is based on a social role of women as homemakers and mothers - what they describe as a dependent role.

The commission also called for a specific amendment to the Constitution outlawing discrimination on 12 grounds, including gender, race, colour, age, disability, sexual orientation, religious belief and membership of the Travelling community.
