THERE was something unreal about last night’s IRA statement, which appears to suggest that the organisation is either being deliberately provocative or is hopelessly disconnected from political realities.

If it considers that its offer to shoot the men thought to have killed Robert McCartney would have helped anything, then the organisation must be living in la-la-land.

The rationale behind the unremitting pressure put on the Provisional movement since December 20 has been to coerce the IRA into abandoning paramilatarism and criminality.
