PASSENGERS face flight chaos over the St Patrick’s Day weekend as Shannon Airport workers voted in favour of strike action last night.

The ballot was held after Aer Lingus announced plans last week to seek 100 voluntary redundancies among baggage-handler staff. This would reduce the airline’s workforce at Shannon by half.

SIPTU is planning a day of action around St Patrick’s Day, which will severely affect transatlantic flights from US cities such as Boston and New York.
