Mayo Rose proves west is best

MAYO Rose Aoibhoinn Ní Shúilleabháin proved that west is best as she was crowned 47th Rose of Tralee last night.

The 22-year-old native Irish speaker had been the bookies’ favourite since Sunday, but was nonetheless overawed at her victory, which makes her the first Mayo Rose to win the coveted title.

“I paid no attention to the odds to be honest,” she said. “I know I had friends and neighbours betting on me but it made no difference to me. I’m in complete shock, it’s like a dream.
