Warning: Drivers aware they can speed and not get points

MOTORISTS have become dangerously aware how unlikely they are to clock up points for speeding, safety chiefs admitted yesterday.

The number caught speeding dropped by more than 24,000 in the first half of this year compared to last, a figure described as “alarming” by TDs.

Gardai said the 21% drop in speeding convictions was based on a combination of factors, headed by the EU presidency which impinged heavily on resources.
