ONE in five Irish people has never voted, according an EU study.

20% of Irish have never voted, says EU survey

A Eurobarometer survey reveals that 21% of Irish adults have never cast a vote in any election. The results will increase pressure on the Government to engage the electorate, including possibly switching polling dates to weekends.

However, Irish apathy corresponds with the EU average, according to the poll, conducted across all 25 EU states days after June's European Parliament elections.
