Over 1,000 DVDs seized in raid

Three traders were arrested at Kilmallock mart on Monday when DVDs were confiscated. Those arrested were from the midlands and County Louth.

Superintendent Frank O’Brien of Bruff garda district said a file was being prepared for the DPP and those arrested were released. Counterfeit DVDs have been flooding open-air markets in Limerick city and county in recent weeks.

Supt O’Brien said: “we have carried out four operations in the Bruff and Kilmallock areas in which counterfeit DVDs were seized. They are of poor quality.”

Meanwhile, gardaí in Limerick city are monitoring the Saturday market where various kinds of counterfeit goods have been seized. A garda source said: “these traders operate on the fringe of the market.”
