Man dies in hospital after Dublin shooting

A MAN in his early 40s died in hospital after being shot in Dublin last night.

The shooting happened on the street at Clifton Drive in Ballyfermot at around 7.30pm. Gardaí believe a shotgun was used in the incident and they sealed off the area for technical examination.

State Pathologist Marie Cassidy is expected to carry out a post-mortem examination today on the deceased, who had not been formally identified last night.

He was still alive when he arrived at St James' Hospital. However, he died a short time later.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses or anyone who saw anything suspicious on the Clifton Drive/Clifton Road junction around the time to contact Ballyfermot station at 01 6667200.

Meanwhile, a man was charged over the weekend in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in County Louth last Tuesday.

Jack Wall, aged 29, from Rathsallagh Park, Shankill, Co Dublin, appeared before a special sitting of Wicklow District Court at midnight on Saturday.

He was charged with assault causing serious bodily harm to Clint Wall at Marsh Road, Drogheda, Co Louth, at around 1.30am on Tuesday March 2.

Following a brief hearing, Jack Wall was remanded in custody to appear again in court tomorrow.

Clint Wall, aged 26, originally from Rathsallagh Park, died last Friday in Our Lady's Hospital, Drogheda, three days after being stabbed.

A post mortem revealed that Clint Wall had died from stab wounds to his abdomen.

At 9.20pm on Friday, gardaí arrested a man and a woman.

The man was taken to Arklow Garda Station and detained overnight under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The woman was brought to Wicklow Garda Station and held overnight.

She was released without charge on Saturday. Both were questioned by the Drogheda investigation team.

In addition to Jack Wall being charged with a Section 4 offence, a file is also being prepared by the gardaí for the DPP.
