MOTORISTS and pedestrians had a lucky escape after joyriders broke traffic lights and drove the wrong way up a one-way street before colliding with two cars and overturning in Cork’s city centre.

Gardaí were alerted after three youths stole a car 30 miles away in Youghal, Co Cork.

The car was then spotted travelling at high speed in the direction of the city. The Opel Corsa was shadowed by garda patrol cars along the way and numerous attempts were made by gardaí to bring the vehicle to a halt.
