THE FAI last night insisted a staff strike next Monday will not affect the Irish team’s preparations for their crucial European Championship fixture on Saturday week.

Twenty-five SIPTU members employed at FAI headquarters in Merrion Square Dublin will begin strike action on Monday, according to SIPTU official John White.

The strike by the clerical and administrative staff over the introduction of a pension scheme has sparked fears that the planning of Ireland’s group ten game against Switzerland in Basel will be jeopardised.
