Fastnet lighting centenary

THE centenary of the lighting of the Fastnet Rock lighthouse was marked yesterday.

Dozens of lightkeepers and their families, including the Kavanagh family, whose grandfather, James Kavanagh, was foreman on the lighthouse building project, attended a ceremony at Mizen Head.

Also there was Rhoda McAuliffe, whose late husband, Malachy, of McAuliffe, Barry, Collins, South Mall, helped Mizen Head’s visitor centre management open the complex to the public.
