THE force may be strong but demand for tickets to the latest Star Wars movie was even stronger over the weekend, prompting cinemas across the country to hold midnight screenings this Thursday.

More shows added as Star Wars fans inundate cinemas

Ireland’s Star War fans inundated cinemas pre-booking tickets for the eagerly awaited screening of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Pre-booking has been so high in Dublin that UCI Cinemas will show the final instalment of the Star Wars saga 44 times in its three cinemas.

They also plan to screen the film at a minute past midnight, minutes after the film’s worldwide release.

At the Ster Century in Dublin, the film will be shown 18 times on Thursday.

In Cork, the Gate Multiplex will have two screens showing the film six times a day.

In the Reel Cinema in Ballincollig the film will be shown on three screens, starting at 11am.

“Tickets for the 8.30pm show are already sold out,” spokesperson Aileen Twohig said.

The movie will be shown five times a day at the city’s Capitol Cineplex.

And in the Galway Omniplex, there will be seven showings on three screens on Thursday.
