Dramatic increase in prostate cancer

THERE has been a dramatic increase in prostate cancer in Ireland with the number of cases almost doubling between 1994 and 2001.

The findings, contained in a latest report by the National Cancer Registry published today, have sparked a major cross-border investigation into prostrate cancer incidence and screenings.

Director of the National Cancer Registry Dr Harry Comber said the incidence of the disease was increasing by around 6% every year.
