Cheers for top Cat can’t be licked

THOUSANDS of hurling fans flocked to the McDonagh Station yard yesterday to welcome home DJ, Henry and the boys.

Cheers for top Cat can’t be licked

Eleven-year-old Paddy Mullan from Clinstown came to see just one of the All-Ireland winning Kilkenny seniors, a certain Mr Carey.

"DJ is our hero. I got this life-size cut-out of him and brought it here tonight," he said.

"He was brilliant. Maybe Henry Shefflin played a bit better than him on Sunday, but he's still my hero.

"My cut-out lost his legs during the week, but we still brought him along."

And the greatest cheer of all was reserved for the top Cat.

Chants of "We're going to Dance all night to our DJ" rang out as the goal hero tried to make his way through the crowd.

"We're thrilled for the minors, too," DJ Carey, said last night.

"It was a great boost in our dressing room to see them winning so well.

"I am absolutely delighted for them. I'd better keep in with everyone because I wouldn't like to be fighting for my place with this great minor team coming up." Four-month-old Michelle O'Gorman took it all in her stride. Her proud mother Carmel from

Ballyraggett in Kilkenny had the toddler's jersey signed by all the Kilkenny minors in the run-up to their Sunday showdown.

"Shane Dowling is our hero. He's on the minor team. Look, she has a picture of him pinned here on the front of her jersey," Carmel said.

The party in Kilkenny will continue right into the weekend and beyond.

The Goal challenge between the All-Ireland champions and local club O'Loughlin's takes place tomorrow night. And the Kilkenny Hurling Supporters Club have planned a night out at the dog track on Saturday. Others have vowed to keep celebrating well into next week and beyond.

It's Kilkenny's 27th senior All-Ireland hurling title and it's the 17th title for the minor side. It's the ninth time that the minor and senior sides have scooped both All-Irelands on the one day.

Both the Liam McCarthy and the Irish Press cups begin their tour of the county today.
