Man in intensive care after falling from window
At 3.10am the man tried to get out a bathroom window when he found he could not open the bathroom door. He fell from the apartment at Grove Island, Corbally, and was found unconscious on the pavement by passersby who called the emergency services.
He was taken to the Mid-West Regional Hospital with serious head injuries. He is still in the intensive care unit but his condition was yesterday described as stable.
The man, who has not been named, is from the Corbally area.
A garda spokesman said: “It would appear that he was in a bathroom of an apartment on the third floor. He got locked into the bathroom and then endeavoured to get out going out through the window. Unfortunately he fell on to the pavement below and received very serious injuries.”
People living in the apartment building have given statements to gardaí.
Last September a 19-year-old student died in Limerick after he fell when trying to climb up into an apartment after being locked out.
He was Michael McNamara, from Meelick. He fell onto spiked railings after attempting to climb a drain pipe up a six-storey building.
He collapsed in a pool of blood about 50 yards away before he was found.
He died shortly after being brought to St John’s hospital.
