PRIMARY principals will be seeking support from second-level unions in their campaign for equal pay, Irish National Teachers Organisation president Sheila Nunan said yesterday.

The benchmarking report of 2002 on public service pay failed to bridge the gap in allowances payable to principals at both sectors, and gave larger increases to those working in second level schools.

Speaking on her first day as head of the primary teachers’ union, Ms Nunan said she will be seeking the backing of the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland and the Teachers Union of Ireland in talks on the second round of benchmarking this year.
