Transition year girls hope to raise €10,000 for St Gabriel’s

Up to 3,000 are expected to take part in the marathon on Sunday, October 9.

The five-mile event starts at the University of Limerick campus and registration forms are in the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday editions of the Irish Examiner and at the Irish Examiner office at 89 O’Connell Street, Limerick.

The 100 transition year students at Crescent College have selected St Gabriel’s school and centre which caters for physically disabled children and teenagers.

Crescent College has developed strong links with St Gabriel’s and students do part of their work experience working with the children and teenagers there.

Charlie MacDonnell, development officer with St Gabriel’s, said they were delighted the girls from Crescent College had chosen St Gabriel’s to benefit from the money they will raise.

“The money will help go towards the installation of new hydrotherapy pool. At present the children from St Gabriel’s are taken to the orthopaedic hospital in Croom to use the hydrotherapy unit there.”
