Couple shocked at gas levels in home

MICK and Nora O’Neill were shocked to discover their home had radon gas levels which were six-and-a-half times above the accepted Radiological Protection Institute’s (RPII) safety limit.

Having heard through the media that Kerry had one of the highest radon levels in the country, they got two monitoring devices from Radon Laboratory Services, which they placed in their sittingroom and in an upstairs bedroom of their Tralee home for three months.

Results of tests now show that the Tralee Town Council-owned house, at Spa Road, had an average annual level of 1,312 becqerals, whereas the national reference level is just 200.
