SSIA holders to play it safe with E16bn windfall

A survey of account holders found just 17% plan to splash out at the end of the five-year, Government-backed savings incentive scheme.

Despite predictions of huge boost to the economy by leading economists, the Bank of Ireland study found 83% of its 272,000 account holders would save some or all of their windfall. Almost nine out of 10 said they would continue to save if the Government introduced a bonus or tax incentive.
