Examiner book set to be mainstay on bestseller list

THE Irish Examiner - 100 Years of News has reached third position on the Irish bestseller list, just one week after being published.

Examiner book set to be mainstay on bestseller list

Nielsen BookScan UK, which compiles the bestsellers list, yesterday confirmed the book was the third bestselling book in the hardback, non-fiction category in the week ending April 23.

The book covers significant events which shook the world over the past 100 years, and countless fascinating events that would never make the history books.

“This shows what a good book it is and the desire to get it out for the European Capital of Culture sets it up for the year,” Peter Thew, sales and marketing director at publishers Gill & Macmillan, commented.

“If people are buying it out of their own pocket this early in the year, we hope it will continue to sell well and become a Christmas stocking-filler,” he added.

Stories covering politics, sport, religion and economics are included in the book, faithfully reproduced as they would have appeared in the newspaper of the day, complete with reproduction of original pages from the newspaper.

Stories from the past are reproduced as they were originally published, backed up by a stunning collection of colour and black and white photographs from the Irish Examiner archives.

“I’m obviously delighted that it’s proving so popular, but I must admit I am not all that surprised as the reaction has been really tremendous since it was published,” said Irish Examiner editor Tim Vaughan.

“People of all ages seem to love it and find it full of fascinating information. Many are buying two copies, one for themselves and another to give as a gift. It’s that kind of book,” he said.

The Irish Examiner - 100 Years of News is available from the Irish Examiner office, Academy Street, Cork, at leading bookstores or online at www.irishexaminer.com.
