THE WEST Dublin suburb of Blanchardstown was delivered a massive employment blow yesterday with the news that a major employer is to axe up to 650 jobs.

US firm 3Com plans to close its entire manufacturing operation in Ireland.

Ireland remains the only manufacturing base for the company, which makes equipment to run computer networks. After production ceases, only 50 people will remain at a small research and development centre.
