MORE women are being treated for alcohol abuse than men, according to figures from one of the country’s main treatment centres for alcoholism.

Females account for over 60% of all patients at the Rutland Centre in Dublin in a trend which experts believe is set to continue.

Rutland Centre clinical director Stephen Rowen said the current ratio between male and female patients was a complete reversal of a common pattern over many years when men were predominant among its clientele.
