TÁNAISTE Mary Harney yesterday rejected claims by the High Court president that the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) will not reduce the numbers of such cases being heard by the High Court.

The PIAB has been designed to cut the number of personal injury cases going to the High Court by providing the same level of awards outside the court system and cutting down on the huge legal bills.

But Mr Justice Joseph Finnegan said that in cases where claimants rejected the PIAB award, they would be likely to “go the distance” to the High Court.
