Election vow in Waterford

A LOCAL election candidate in Waterford has promised not to take a single cent in salary or expenses in the 2004-2009 period if elected to Waterford City Council following the June 11 ballot.

Oliver Dempsey, an independent candidate chasing one of four seats in Ward One, says that he will draw down all allowances that he is entitled to and donate 90% of them to a different Waterford charity in each of the five years that the incoming council will sit for. The remaining 10% will be retained to help cover legitimate administrative expenses.
