Garda vehicle accidents cost €6m

NEARLY €6 million was paid over two years in compensation and legal costs following accidents involving garda vehicles.

Gardaí are involved in approximately 450 accidents every year. The figures have emerged as an elderly woman remained in a critical condition in a hospital after being struck by a patrol car.

The woman, in her 70s, is being treated in Beaumont Hospital following the accident at Clonskeagh in south Dublin.
