THE Department of Education has been sharply criticised by the former chairperson of the Child Abuse Commission for its level of co-operation with the inquiry.

In her third and final interim report published yesterday, Ms Justice Mary Laffoy delivered a strongly-worded attack about continuous problems encountered in obtaining State documents necessary for the work of the commission’s Investigation Committee.

“The committee is not satisfied that since its establishment it has received the level of co-operation which it is entitled to expect to receive from the Department of State, which is its statutory sponsor,” said Ms Justice Laffoy.
