DOCTORS in Drogheda have warned that patients’ lives are being put at risk because of additional pressure on services at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

In an unprecedented move, the 25 GPs based in the town have written to the Minister for Health asking for a detailed plan on how the “intolerable situation” is to be addressed.

The doctors say an expanding population, the transfer of services, the number of asylum seekers and an increase in the range and number of specialist services on offer have all put pressure on hospital staff who are struggling to cope.
