Man questioned after cocaine seizure with street value of €100,000

A MAN was being questioned last night following the seizure of cocaine with a street value of 100,000 in North Dublin.

The 19-year-old man attempted to escape after his car was stopped by gardaí at Woodview Close, the Donaghies.

However gardaí pursued him and managed to stop his car a short time later.

The drugs were found hidden in the car.

The man was being questioned at Coolock Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act 1996 and can be held for up to seven days.

Meanwhile gardaí in Cork City released a 27-year-old man without charge last night after discovering cannabis with a street value of €40,000 following the search of a house.

Detectives from the Cork City Drugs Squad, based at Anglesea Street Garda Station, swooped on the house in Douglas, Cork following a surveillance operation late on Thursday night.

They arrested the man, believed to be from Co Kerry, and took him to Togher Garda Station for questioning.

"He has been released without charge and a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions," a Garda spokesman said.

Gardaí in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, are also preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions after they seized cannabis resin with a street value of €40,000.

They seized the drugs after stopping a man in the nearby village of Toomevara at 7.25pm on Thursday night.

"The man, who is local, was stopped and searched and the drugs were discovered hidden in the car," a Garda spokesman said.

He said the man was taken to Nenagh Garda Station where he was questioned for a number of hours by detectives.

The man was released without charge last night and a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
