Holiday home sells for €480,000

A HOLIDAY home overlooking the internationally renowned Ballybunion Golf Club has fetched €480,000 - well in excess of the guide price.

The three-bedroom, single-storey house, which is across the road from the fifth green on the Old Course, was owned by Cork businessman Pat Herlihy and purchased in trust, at a public auction by a Cork solicitor.

Tom Dillon, of Sherry Fitzgerald’s Listowel office, who conducted the auction, said they were expecting the property to make over €400,000 and felt that location was the key to the price.

“The house is in excellent condition, well designed and well cared for and is on Sandhill Road; the Dublin 4 of Ballybunion,” he said.

“Houses on Sandhill Road don’t come on the market very often and whenever they do there’s bound to be lot of interest.”

He suggested the sale marked the start of Ballybunion, which is one of the country’s old-style, family seaside resorts, becoming a good place in which to invest in property.
