Ahern set to finalise EU constitution plan

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern will tell his fellow EU leaders this evening he can finalise Europe’s first constitution by June.

However the Treaty of Dublin will not be ready in time for Europe’s citizens to vote on it during the elections to the European Parliament in mid-June.

The details are still to be finalised but the Taoiseach, chairing his first EU summit of the Irish presidency, will tell his colleagues he believes he will get agreement on the outstanding issues.
