THOUSANDS of disadvantaged children are going to school hungry and without proper uniforms, a damning report by the Society of St Vincent de Paul has found.

A survey by the society (SVP) found low income households are suffering more hardship trying to buy uniforms, shoes and schoolbooks and find it difficult to provide enough food for their children.

The SVP warn that many children will be forced to leave the education system much earlier and will never fulfil their full potential unless their families’ incomes are significantly increased.
