Brennan warns parents over seat belt offences

PARENTS are gambling with children’s lives by allowing them to travel in cars without wearing seat belts, Transport Minister Seamus Brennan said yesterday.

Providing statistics showing that more than 3,000 notices for seat belt offences had been issued, Mr Brennan said he was alarmed that motorists were continuing to behave in such a reckless way.

These offences include 265 motorists who allowed people under 17 years to travel in either the front or back seats without wearing seat belts or child restraints.
