Gardaí move to exclude Travellers

DUNGARVAN was cordoned off yesterday by gardaí to prevent a Traveller entourage from setting up an illegal encampment in the town.

For the second time in five days, the roundabouts at all the main entrances were manned by gardaí following a tip-off that a large group of Traveller families were heading for the town.

The garda cordons were put in place around midday and last night a spokesman said they will be maintained “for as long as it takes”.
