DISABLED people are suffering indignity and discomfort due to the refusal by some local authorities to allow grant aid for house modifications.

Michael Ringrose, chief executive of People with Disabilities in Ireland (PwDI), said they have received numerous reports from members countrywide that applications for house adaptation grants had been refused.

"The problem is being relayed strongly to us from all of our networks. It's not just an individual case here and there," he said.
