Migration from outside EU a ‘key reality’

MIGRATION from outside countries will become a reality for the EU in the foreseeable future, according to the Minister for Social and Family Affairs.

In setting out the key priorities in her area during Ireland’s six-month presidency of the EU, Mary Coughlan said that European social and employment policies will need to address possible social exclusion that may arise from the increase of migration.

Ms Coughlan said mobility within the EU and migration from outside would become “key realities” but pointed out they could create significant economic and social benefits for both migrants and host states.
