THE Department of Agriculture has taken further precautionary steps to prevent the lethal bird flu hitting Ireland.

The virus continues to sweep across Asia with devastating effect, killing 10 people in as many countries and infecting millions of poultry.

Agriculture Minister Joe Walsh has introduced measures with the requirement that unprocessed loose poultry meat imported from outside the European Union must bear the country of origin label.
