ICTU urge move from ideology of low taxes

IRELAND must move away from the ideology of low taxes, if it is to achieve a just society and , the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) has warned.

In its pre-budget submission to Government yesterday ICTU also called for tax credits and bands to be increased in line with inflation in December’s budget.

ICTU general secretary David Begg, who met with Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy yesterday also sought a package of measures to help workers with childcare costs.
