TRUCK drivers are being urged to tighten up security on all their vehicles under tough anti-smuggling and trafficking guidelines.

Irish truckers are seen as soft targets in the multi-million euro illegal trafficking of people and goods, says the Irish Road Hauliers Association (IRHA).

It issued the guidelines in a bid to protect truckers from costly legal fees and hefty fines and to safeguard the livelihoods of the 4,700 licensed hauliers in the country.
