EU warning Ireland’s ‘last chance’ to abolish planning fee

LABOUR has renewed its call on the Government to abolish the €20 fee charged to members of the public who make submissions on or object to planning applications.

Labour environment spokesman renewed his appeal in the wake of the EU Commission’s threat to take Ireland to the European Court for failing to comply with an EU directive which outlaws the €20 fee.

Mr Gilmore said the confirmation from the European Commission that it will prosecute Ireland for imposing the charge, gives the Government one last chance to act.
