GARDAÍ in Cork seized 3,000 ecstasy tablets over the weekend - their second major drugs bust in a week.

The latest drugs raid in Mallow on Saturday night brings to €280,000 the total value of ecstasy seized by officers in the county since Wednesday.

A couple was still being questioned by gardaí last night following the drugs raid in Mallow.

Ecstasy tablets, with an estimated street value of €30,000, were discovered at a house in the town.

A man in his late 20s, and his wife, in her early 30s, were arrested.

Saturday night’s seizure follows a successful drugs raid on a house on the northside of the city last Wednesday night.

Up to 25,000 ecstasy tablets, with a street value of €250,000, were discovered when gardaí, acting on a tip-off, raided the garage of a house in Banduff, Mayfield.

A 23-year-old man from the Model Farm Road area of the city and previously unknown to gardaí, was arrested and later released.

Meanwhile, heroin with a street value of €400,000 was seized in Dublin on Saturday night. A man in his 20s was arrested afterwards in the Clonshaugh area of Coolock.
