Boy in hospital after falling out of school bus
The child had been travelling on the Bus Éireann school bus to Corrigeenroe National School in Sligo.
He fell out of the emergency door a few hundred yards after he had been picked up outside his home in Ballinafad at 9.15am on Monday.
Bus Éireann said a full investigation had been carried out on the vehicle.
Spokesperson Erica Rosengrave said there was no way the rear emergency door could have opened accidentally.
The 49-seater bus was 16 years old and carrying around 20 pupils from the Boyle and Ballinafad area.
Education Minister Mary Hanafin did not have any comment about the accident as Bus Éireann is carrying out an investigation.
The accident happened on the same day that a fire destroyed a school bus on the way to collect exam students in Meath on Monday, four weeks after the school bus accident in the county which claimed the lives of five girls being brought home from school in Navan.
